Tablet and iPad Screen Repair: A Quick Guide
Bigger glass needs more care. Here is how iPad and tablet repairs differ from phones — and what to expect.

Short answer: a cracked iPad or tablet screen is very fixable, and in most cases a repair costs far less than a new device. The job is handled differently from a phone, though — the glass is larger and more flexible and the adhesive bond is stronger, so it takes more time and care to do it right.
iPad screen vs tablet screen: what is actually broken?
The first thing to sort out is what cracked. Many iPads use a single sheet of glass with the digitizer (the touch layer) bonded to it, sitting over a separate LCD underneath. On those, a cracked front glass can often be addressed without replacing the whole display — but if the picture is lined, discolored, or black in patches, the LCD underneath is damaged too and needs replacing. Newer iPads and many Android tablets use a fused glass-and-LCD unit, where the two are bonded together and replaced as one part. Which design you have changes both the price and the time, so we identify it before quoting. You can see the service details on our iPad and tablet repair page.
Why tablets take more care than phones
A tablet screen is big and comparatively thin, which means it flexes. That flex, plus a stronger adhesive seal around the edge, is why a tablet screen takes longer to remove cleanly than a phone screen. Rushing it risks cracking the new glass during install or damaging the digitizer cables that run along the edge. We warm the adhesive, lift the glass slowly, clean the frame, and seat the new display with fresh adhesive so it bonds flat and sealed. Done properly, touch response and brightness come back to factory feel.
Does a screen repair erase my iPad?
No. Swapping the screen does not touch your storage — your apps, photos, and settings stay exactly as they are. As with any repair we still suggest a quick iCloud or computer backup first, just as good practice in case the device needs more work than the glass.
What drives the cost and the timing
Three things move the price: the model, whether it is a glass-only or a fused glass-and-LCD part, and screen size. A small older iPad with separate glass is the least expensive; a large, newer, laminated tablet display is the most. Because tablet adhesive has to cure, some tablet repairs are not same-day the way most phone screens are — we will tell you whether yours can be done while you wait or needs to stay overnight to set properly. Either way, you get a price before any work starts.
Charging and battery problems too
Screens are not the only tablet issue we see. Tablets that will not charge are often a worn charging port or a tired battery rather than a dead device, and both are repairable. If your iPad dies quickly or only charges at an angle, we test the port and the battery and tell you which one is the real cause — the same honest diagnosis we give phones.
Repair or replace your tablet?
If the tablet still powers on and runs the apps you need, a screen repair is almost always the cheaper path and keeps your setup intact. Replacement starts to make sense only when the device is very old and no longer getting software updates, or when the frame is bent and the screen damage is severe. We will give you a straight answer at the counter.
Frequently asked questions
Can you fix just the cracked glass and leave the LCD? On older iPads with separate layers, sometimes yes. On fused displays the glass and LCD are one part, so they are replaced together. We check your model first.
Is a tablet screen repair same-day? Many are, but some need the adhesive to cure, so they may stay overnight. We confirm timing when we quote.
My iPad screen is cracked but still works — should I wait? You can for a short while if it is a small crack, but open cracks let in dust and can spread, and the exposed digitizer is more likely to fail. A case or screen protector buys time.
